Marriage Snooping

A number of weddings have been happening around my neighbourhood recently. If you walk around early enough in the day, you see their massive tents overflowing out into the cluttered streets, streaks of red and orange and yellow garlands adorning every surface; food, loud music, lights to rival the best christmas decorations in Europe.

Late enough at night, you can smell the weddings before you see them – the staff will be putting out the fires that kept food warm, bathing the streets in smoke and embers. It’s all very jolly, so this article by Jason Burke was rather timely:
